The innovative Post Graduate Diploma in Justice and Peace Studies is an inter-disciplinary programme with an inter-modular curriculum. Recognizing that violence is rooted in injustice, the PG Diploma in Justice and Peace Studies seeks to respond to the need for research, education, analysis and training necessary to foster justice and peace in South Asia and the world by:
- analyzing the structural issues that cause and promote inequality and violence on local, community, national, regional, and international levels;
- exploring the links between poverty, insecurities and conflict, and the many forms of violence in the human experience, and in discriminatory institutions and cultures;
- reviewing existing methods for conflict transformation and negotiation as well as formulating new and situation-specific responses to injustice;
- developing skills in conflict transformation and providing opportunities to practice the difficult skills of nonviolent problem solving;
- conceptualizing alternative ways of living and learning in community, drawing from global, South Asian, and South Indian contexts, as well as discovering the strategies of marginalized communities, including Adaviasi, Dalit, and local traditions in peace building approaches.
The PG Diploma in Justice and Peace Studies integrates the many areas of intellectual inquiry relating to the historical and contemporary search for a peaceful and just society and world. Conducted from the South Asian perspective, this course will prepare graduates to promote peace with justice in interpersonal, institutional, societal and global terms.
