Pakistan – India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy

Individual staff members and Visthar as an organization are members of the Pakistan – India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy. The Forum organized the first of its five Joint Conventions at Delhi in February 1995. This was followed by one at Lahore in November 1995, Calcutta in December 1996, Peshawar in November 1998 and the fifth at Bangalore in April 2000. Attended by delegates from both countries the conventions discussed 5 major issues:

1. War, de-militarization, peace and peace initiatives

2. Democratic solution to the Kashmir problem

3. Democratic Governance

4. Religious intolerance in India and Pakistan

5. Globalization and Regional cooperation. Visthar played a very crucial role in the convention at Bangalore and continues to plan an active role in supporting the Karnataka Chapter of the Pakistan – India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy.
